Description
Based in the Department of Economics at the University of Maryland, IRIS draws on a set of tailored analytic tools to develop an unbiased, in-depth understanding of the mechanisms and institutions that best enable micro- and small-enterprise growth. It uses this knowledge to develop and implement technical assistance programs for governments, international development agencies, multilateral donors, and foundations.
The IRIS Center 's approach to enterprise development focuses on diagnosing and improving the environment for a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient micro- and small-enterprise sector. It works with a range of stakeholders governments, NGOs, and civil society to fight poverty by strengthening businesses and the households they sustain.
The IRIS Center is looking for a Director of its Enterprise Development Group (EDG). The EDG director will provide overall leadership to the EDG team, including the management of multiple projects, marketing and outreach. Location

Main Job Functions
Supervise team and ensure the timely and appropriate implementation of all EDG projects
Investigate leads for new business and oversee proposal writing
Manage relationships with partners and donors to ensure smooth working relations and timely, high-quality implementation of project deliverables
Help identify appropriate consultants/researchers, as needed
Develop strategy and policy recommendations based on research results
Review, comment, and approve results (provide quality control)
Required Skills
Project management experience and ability to work in a team environment and manage others
Experience in microfinance and developing and/or transition countries
Excellent research and writing skills, including proposal writing
Experience with USAID contracting is preferred
Work experience in interacting with non-US professionals
Required Criteria & Characteristics
PhD degree in economics, political economy, political science, international relations, public administration, business administration, or relevant discipline. More than five years of experience in a senior management role.

Foreign language abilities desired
Travel
The successful candidate will be available for foreign travel.
